Degrees and Certifications:
Ms. Jane Hall
Hi, I'm Ms. Jane. I have taught English learners at LEAP for five years, and in Saint Paul Public Schools for 15 years. Before that, I was a teacher in New York City. I teach all levels of writing at LEAP, and it gives me great satisfaction to see my students express their opinions and discover their creative voices in English.
When I'm not at school, you might find me bicycling, walking my dog in the park or reading a good book. During the summer, I like to travel to the home countries of my students. In recent years, I've visited Thailand, Burma, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, Ethiopia, Kenya, Bhutan (photo at left), Mexico and every country in Central America. In the future, I'd like to explore more of Africa and South America. In 2008, I took a break from teaching in Saint Paul and went to Thailand where I taught in Umphiem Mai Refugee Camp on the Thai-Burmese border. I was also a Peace Corps volunteer in Nicaragua for three years.
My education includes a master's degree in Teaching of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) from Columbia University in New York City. I have bachelor's degrees in Journalism and Business Administration. Right now, I'm working on another master's degree in Creative Writing at Hamline University. You might say that I love being a student almost as much as I love being a teacher! You're right. I live by the wise words of Mahatma Gandhi, "Learn as if you were to live forever."
