My name is Elisabeth Fontana, and this is my seventh year teaching English language arts at Ramsey. I love teaching at Ramsey (where I attended junior high myself!) because I am committed to guiding our diverse, passionate students through the transition from elementary school to high school. I get to learn new things from my students every day, and I love that they are not afraid to share their personalities with the class. Teaching ELA lets me share my passion for reading with my students, and I enjoy helping students become better writers and communicators. These are skills that transfer to so many different parts of students' lives.
I will be using Schoology as my primary gradebook, so please log into Schoology to check your student's progress in my class and missing assignments. Please read the district's Parent Guide to Schoology for more information.
Specific course information is available in my syllabus. The English Language Arts Department at Ramsey offers a challenging curriculum that is aligned with the Common Core Standards. As an IB-MYP school, we also design MYP units that allow our students to make progress with the Language and Literature aims and objectives of the IB.
Note on IB Grading: Summative assessments will be assessed using an MYP Language and Literature rubric. Students receive a level, 0–8 (in addition to a “normal” score/A–N grade in our gradebook), that best matches the description for their work in four different criteria: analysing, organizing, producing text, or using language. Most projects/essays will only assess one or two of these criteria at a time. The description for the levels of achievement are: limited (1 or 2), adequate (3 or 4), substantial (5 or 6), and excellent (7 or 8).
I'm looking forward to working with you to have a successful year at Ramsey! Please contact me with any questions: firstname.lastname@example.org
