Ms. Deanna Amborn
My name is Deanna Amborn. As of the 2017-2018 school year, I will have worked for Saint Paul Public Schools for 23 years as a Speech/Language Pathologist.
I enjoy the outdoors especially, hiking, camping, biking and gardening. Much of my time is spent enjoying time with my wonderful family-My husband and two children ages 11 and 8.
I work with students at Parkway on their communication skills in the areas or articulation, language, fluency (stuttering) and voice. One of my greatest beliefs is that, it is of extreme importance that I treat all students here at Parkway the way I would like my own children to be treated. This means treating all students from a place of kindness and respect while holding them accountable with a compassionate heart. I believe it is our job as educators to work to tap into the greatness which is in each student.
One area that I focus on with all of my students is the area of self-advocacy. I believe one of the most important areas of communication is the ability to advocate for yourself both with your peers and with teachers. This is difficult for many middle school students (and let’s be real, for adults as well). It takes our bravest self to be vulnerable enough to assert ourselves (take care of ourselves) and to let people know when we need help.
I strive to create an atmosphere where students are able to grow in their confidence as communicators. One of my favorite quotes is; "Communication-The Human Connection-is the key to personal and career success." - Paul J. Meyer
