Degrees and Certifications:

Ms. Roque

Ms. Roque started at Eastern Heights in the 2010-2011 school year. She started the year student teaching in 1st grade with Mrs. Mao, then moved to teaching 5th grade full time mid-year. The following year she looped up with her class to teach 6th grade. She has been teaching 1st grade since 2012. Ms. Roque has a bachelors degree in theatre from Gustavus Adolphus University, an EMT certification from Kirkwood Community College in Iowa, and a masters degree in teaching from Hamline University.

When she is not in school, Ms. Roque enjoys reading historical fiction, urban fantasy, and comic books. She also enjoys drawing, face painting, changing her hair color, and spending time with her dogs. The majority of Ms. Roque's outside time is spent practicing and playing roller derby with North Star Roller Derby and Minnesota Men's Roller Derby.

Ms. Roque lives in the Midway area of Saint Paul, and can frequently be found at the Midway Target. She lives with her husband Jon, who is a professional potter. They have two dogs, Charlie and Luna, and a cat named Alice. The cat is evil. Don't trust her.

Ms. Roque has enjoyed her time at Eastern Heights, and hopes to remain here for many years. Many professional industries and locations make it difficult to be authentic, but Eastern Heights Elementary is a school where both teachers and students can be their authentic selves and still be respected, regardless of hair color!
