I have been a teacher since 1986. I have always worked for Saint Paul Public schools. I have been a fifth grade teacher, sixth grade teacher, 4-6 science specialist, director of an outdoor education classroom and am now working as an engineering teacher.
I am currently a Project Lead The Way (PLTW) teacher. This year I teach Automation and Robotics, Coding (Computer Science) and Environmental Science. Please check out the great photos on this this page. There are a lot of photos and videos of students engaged in activites we do in this class.
I am also the after school lead coach of the Farnsworth Aerospace LEGO Robotics teams and REC (Renewable Energy Challenge) team.
I teach in room 406, in the basement by the gym.
Environmental Science - 6th - 8th grade
I teach Environmental Science as an elective. I taught and directed the Belwin Environmental Education facility for 9 years. I use this experience and passion for our planet and it's well being as a platform for this course. Students watch some films, build understanding of ecology, renewable and non-renewable energy resources and create green energy. We build wind generating systems and experiment with solar pannels.
Automation and Robotics - 8th Grade
This is a eighth grade class where we study the basics of robotics and automation tools. We create all sorts of automated machines like elevators, toll booths, cars that can go through a maze and a machine that does many different things.
Computer Science Coding- a PLTW and Code.org class
Last summer I got trained to teach code writing using CODE.ORG curricula. I am excited to teach this for the first time this year. I am also taking course work through PLTW on computer science and using PLTW tools to teach code writing and debugging of web based sites, games and web pages.
