Degrees and Certifications:
BS Art Education, UW-Madison National Board Certification
Hello Students and families!
My belief system: The arts build community, increase cultural awareness, mend wounds and celebrate differences. Societies that invest in the arts flourish and grow.
My experience: This is only my eighth year at Highland Park Senior High, but I have taught Visual Art since 2001. This summer I returned back to school and am working towards a masters degree in Arts and Cultural Leadership at the University of Minnesota. I am excited to share my own learning with students this year.
My value system: It is critical that young people feel connected to their community and see themselves as contributors to creating a more just world. Creating art facilitates this by building confidence and resilience through healthy risk-taking, creative problem solving and reduced fear of failure. It also facilitates connectedness and purpose through increased understanding of the human experience since the first people recorded their history on the walls of caves.
