Fifth Grade

  • When scholars enter fifth grade at Obama Elementary, we immediately begin preparing for middle school, high school and beyond. Our team is made up of two classroom teachers, one special education specialist and countless support staff such as LD, EBD, DCD, Speech, and Occupational Therapy experts as well as a Counselor, Social Worker, and Behavior Specialist.

Our scholars visit two classrooms daily. Each classroom teacher specializes in one core academic area. One class specializes in Science and Writing and the other specializes in Math.  Reading will be taught in the afternoon in the scholars' homeroom.

Our Enrichment Classes are Math Lab, Science, and African American Studies. Scholars will also have Phy Ed twice each week.

We also emphasize character development throughout the school year.  We look at character traits such as responsibility, integrity, honesty, and more.  We will have lessons and activities dedicated to character development, and also integrate it into our curriculum throughout the year.

We have high academic, behavior and social expectations in fifth grade.  We expect our scholars to come to school ready to work hard each day. The goal of our team is to prepare our scholars for Post- Secondary Education. We want all of our scholars to believe that they can achieve whatever dream they have through preparation, organization, and hard work!

We are excited to have you in 5th grade at Obama Elementary!
