Mrs. Berchem
Hello, my name is Angela Berchem. This is my sixth year at Mississippi. For four years (2017-2021), I taught second grade, and last year (2021-22), I was Academic Support for K-5 students. This year (2022-23), I am the K-2 WINN Literacy Teacher. I am privileged to be a part of the Mississippi Creative Arts School family and community. :-)
I graduated from the University of Northwestern in St. Paul with a Bachelor of Science in Educational Studies in 1998. In 2004, I received my MN licenses in Elementary Education (K-6) and Social Studies (5-8). In 2020, I received my Master's Degree and MN license in Special Education (K-12). I have 4 years of experience in charter schools and over 20 years of experience working with children.
My teaching style is using best practices to ensure that all my students are learning and engaged. I am passionate about education and a strong advocate of developing confident, honest, responsible, and respectful citizens. I choose to invest in our future leaders! I have hope my students will use their minds and hearts to improve the quality of life for themselves and others.
I was born in South Korea and grew up on a farm in South Dakota. I was married in July of 2021, and I chose to change my last name from DeBoer to Berchem. I have 3 older brothers and 1 older sister. I enjoy embroidery, traveling, nature, hiking, wakeboarding, sports, and hanging out with my family and friends.
