Philosophy of Music Education
My philosophy of music education centers around the idea that music is a unique way of knowing and understanding. There are several published philosophies of multiple intelligences, the most popular of which, and the one that I am most familiar with, is Howard Gardner's. I view my job as helping students gain proficiency in that unique intelligence. Some refer to that proficiency in music as musicianship.
This goal is accomplished through singing, playing instruments, reading and writing notation, creating music, and studying and analyzing music from a variety of styles, cultures, and time periods.
