Health Start School Based Clinic

  • Creative Arts Secondary School is partnering with West Side Community Health Services to provide onsite mental health counseling services.  Students will be able to access the following services:

    • mental health assessment and care
    • depression and suicide prevention
    • family issues
    • violence prevention
    • personal and relationship problems
    • school concerns
    • alcohol and substance abuse
    • money and housing issues
    • pregnancy counseling
    • immigrant/refugee experiences
    • recovery from trauma

October is Minnesota Goes to College and College Knowledge Month

  • Many colleges in Minnesota are waiving applications fees during the month of October while others may waive for a limited time, typically a week.  When applying online to Minnesota State Colleges and Universities, enter the prompted promo code "CKM2018".  Here is the list of colleges participating in the Minnesota Goes to College Month waived application fee.

    In addition to the waived college application fees during the month of October, Minnesota College Goal is hosting financial aid and Free Applicaiton for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) workshops.  Some sites will allow parents and students can complete their 2019-2020 FAFSA application.  Parents and students will need to bring their social security number, and tax return forms from 2 years ago.  To check out the Minnesota College Goal sites.

National ACT Test on Oct 27, 2018 - Registration Deadline is Sept. 28, 2018

  • Registration deadline for the October 27, 2018 National ACT test is September 28, 2018.   After September 28, 2018, you can still register for the October 27, 2018 test date but must pay a late fee.  ACT Fee Waivers are available for students with limited income.  The fee waivers do not cover late fees.  If you need assistance registering for the ACT or need a fee waiver, contact your counselor.  

    Remember to register for the ACT at www.actstudent.org.

     

Financial Aid Night - November 1, 2018

  • Get FREE assistance in completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on November 1, 2017 from 5:00 - 7:00 P.M. at Creative Arts Secondary School in room 4109.  

    Bring your parent(s) and their following information:

    • 2017 tax return forms
    • Social Security Number 
    • Alien Registration Number (Green Card) for permanent residents
    • Driver's License
    • Email address

    Students should bring the following:

    • 2017 tax return forms

    • Alien Registration Number (Green Card) for permanent residents
    • Driver's License (if applicable)
    • Personal email address (not your SPPS email)
    • List of schools you are applying

     

    Undocumented students (including DACA) do not qualify for the FAFSA and do not need to attend the Financial Aid Workshop but should contact their counselor to set up an appointment to apply for the Minnesota Dream Act.  The Minnesota Dream Act provides state grants (FREE MONEY) for students to attend college.

National College Fair - October 24 & 25

  • The National College Fair is coming to the Minneapolis Convention Center on October 24th and 25th.  Hundreds of colleges from across the United States and abroad will have representatives available to meet prospective applicants and answer any college related questions.  Creative Arts is hosting a fieldtrip to the National College Fair on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 for high school students only.  Fieldtrip forms are due on October 12, 2018.  Questions regarding this fieldtrip or for additional fieldtrip forms, contact your counselor.  Students and families are encourage to attend additional sessions on their own.
