"Hey, who is the Coach?"
Hello, Horace Mann community. Allow me to introduce myself. I’m Mark Castillo, the Physical Education Instructor, since the 2010-11 schoolyear. I have been teaching Physical Education, with St. Paul Schools, since 1997. My first 13 years were spent at Roosevelt Elementary, where in addition to teaching Physical Education, I was also the Bus Supervisor, Technology Equipment Manager, and building schedule creator.
I'm extremely fortunate to be teaching at such a great school. The staff is dedicated to the success of the students. The parent involvement is vast. And the students have shown great enthusiasm and commitment, when they come to Physical Education class.
A bit about my background, I hold a Bachelors degree in Kinesiology and Masters degree in Physical Education, from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, as well as a license in Coaching. In addition to teaching Physical Education at Horace Mann, I also am the School Patrol Supervisor. Outside of school, I am a Baseball coach, at Henry Sibley High School, and have been coaching there since 2009. Additionally, I have taught Kindergarten, 3rd and 5th graders, during Summer School, in the Inver Grove Heights school district for several years, as well as in St. Paul, during my career.
When I have free time, I enjoy spending it with my wife, Julia, and my kids Vincent (a 6th grader and former Horace Mann student) and Vanessa (a 4th grader at Horace Mann). Depending on the season, I can also be found umpiring adult softball games, or officiating adult broomball games, as well as playing broomball, golf, and baseball.
It has been a great experience at Horace Mann. I look forward to continuing to establishing and strengthening relationships with our school community, going forward.
