Impressive! That was the word which best described the chess day.
The past few weeks have allowed me to actually sit down and play some of the kids. Today I played Cleo (calling her out because I was VERY impressed) and she proceeded to follow all the opening principles we had been working on earlier in the year. Perhaps a star in the making? Another Chess Queen?
- Attack the center
- Open lanes and get minor pieces into play.
- Get king into safety
- Protect your pieces
We had a another Checkmate-In-2-Moves puzzle on the wall and a drawing from the goodies box for Otto. Look for many more of these to come in the next few weeks.
I was also impressed by several young players who, without hesitation, scored some end game tags. I jumped for joy way more than they did.
Thanks again to all the parents who help. As always, parents are welcome to come and play anytime.
