Ms. Michelle Diaz

I grew up on the East Side of Saint Paul and attended Dayton's bluff Elementary, Battle Creek Junior High, and Harding Senior High. I graduated from high school in 1991, then attended the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. I decided to become a Physical Educatior during my college experience and obtained my Bachelor of Science Degree in K-12 Physical Education. I've been a Physical Education Specialist, for Saint Paul Public Schools, since 1997. I've taught ten years of Elementary Physical Education and am now in my eleventh year at Como Park Senior High. I coach the Girls' Badminton Team in the spring.

My hopes and dreams are to start a Salsa Rueda Club at Como Park because I love to dance! My proposal of adding a Latin Dance Elective was approved and I will begin teaching this elective this coming spring (2018-19)! We will focus on Salsa Rueda de Casino, but will also learn Bachata, Cumbia, and some Cha-Cha-Cha!

My favorite activities are: Latin Dance (specifically Salsa Rueda); gardening in the summer; Nordic Skiing in the winter; and hiking almost anywhere. I love exploring both State and National Parks. This past summer (2018) I visited/hiked Zion National Park and the Grand Canyon (North Rim). I've also visited/hiked: New York (Whirlpool State Park), Michigan (Ludington State Park), Indiana (Indiana Dunes State Park), and Sedona, Arizona. I enjoy making time to see little parts of our beautiful country each summer. It has been an eye opening experience!
