Senior Year Checklist

    Please follow the suggested timeline below to be on track for college.  If you have questions along the way, please check in with your counselor or the College and Career Center.  You can also download this checklist with the link below.  

    Humboldt Senior Year Checklist
    Make copies of everything you submit for colleges and scholarships.  Organize everything college and scholarship-related into a central folder.  During your senior year, periodically make time to see your counselor and the College and Career Center.

    Humboldt Senior Year Timeline: Class of 2019

    Career: A job or professional pathway that requires training & offers opportunities for advancement.

    College: Any kind of training program after high school that results in gaining a degree or credential once completed.

     September

    • Review your transcripts (schedule a credit check with school counselor if have questions)
      • Schedule appointment on front page of Humboldt website if needed
    • Update your resume (useful for college and scholarship applications)
    • Meet with Career/College Reps (Register on Humboldt Web Page- Career/College Sign up Button)
    • Research career and college options and make a list of 3-10 colleges you are interested attending
    • Register for the Saturday October 27, 2018 ACT Test at actstudent.org (only if needed)
      • Online registration deadline is September 28th
      • ACT test fee waivers are available in the Career and College Center
    • Ask counselors and/or teachers for letters of recommendation if needed for your college or scholarship applications. (Ask at least 2 weeks before application deadline)

     October

    • Start applying to your top 3-5 colleges (October 22-26- Many Application Fees Waived)
      • Stop by Career and College Center for College App Fee Waiver
    • Meet with Career/College Reps (Register on Humboldt Web Page- Career/College Sign up Button)
    • Attend Humboldt College Fair on Tuesday, October 30th

    November

    • Continue applying to your colleges (Deadlines are happening)
    • Register and take the Accuplacer at Humboldt (if needed).
      • Register on Humboldt Web Page- Career/College Sign up Button
      • Must apply to St. Paul College prior to taking Accuplacer at Humboldt

    December

    • Thursday, December 6, 4pm-7pm; Attend Financial Aid Night at Humboldt and Complete the FAFSA
    • Finish and send all college applications
    • Research and apply to scholarships

    January- March

    • Retake Accuplacer if needed
    • Research and apply to scholarships
    • Follow up with colleges for any missing items
    • Update Naviance with college acceptances as you hear
    • Start comparing college award letters and making decisions

    April

    • Review your financial aid packages for each college you have been accepted to
    • Choose the college you plan to attend in the fall and send in your commitment letter and deposit

    May

    • Most colleges will want your commitment letter and deposit by May 1
    • Complete your Senior Survey

     June- Graduation- Congratulations Class of 2019!

    4 Types of Financial Aid

    Loans- repay often with interest

    Employment- work study

    Grants- free $ that is need based

    Scholarships- free and merit based
