I was born in St. Paul at the old Midway hospital. My inspiration to become a teacher came from my parents who were both teachers and my extended family who taught here in St. Paul. I am co-department chair of the Johnson Senior High Social Studies Department and have been teaching Govies at Johnson Senior High for twenty-seven years, the only school I have ever taught at.
Currently, I teach two sections of ninth grade World History and one section of eleventh grade U.S. History. In the past I have taught courses such as Plague, Pox and Pestilence: The History of Disease, Baseball as America, Humanities Soccer, City Life, Advanced Placement Government and AP European History and America's Civil War. The Civil War is one of my passions. I am a member of the Twin Cities Civil War Round Table.
When not teaching I love to spend time with my two amazing daughters, going to their various activities, enjoying the State Fair or traveling. My favorite cities to visit are New York (just smell it), London, and Paris. I consider myself lucky to have taken Johnson students to Europe on four different occasions.
I enjoy good humor and a fine wit. I am a huge Manchester United soccer club fan and will always be found watching the Red Devils on Saturday mornings. I was the girls varsity soccer coach at Johnson for eleven years. I am also interested in history, baseball, and travel.
I believe that every student who walks into my room has the opportunity to be successful, and that success will come from a equal partnership between the student and myself. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you might have. My email is Christopher.Nelson@spps.org. My direct line phone numer is 651-744-3678. I look forward to working with you.
