Johnson High School Aerospace and Engineering

  • The Johnson High School Aerospace and Engineering Department is very excited to offer the rigorous challenges of Aerospace and Engineering to its students as the SPPS Aerospace and Engineering Magnet high school in Saint Paul, Minnesota.

This unique opportunity helps prepare students in the areas of mathematics, science, engineering and technology and encourages each and every single student to reach beyond the stars.

Johnson is a certified Project Lead The Way (PLTW) high school.  All students attending Johnson take one semester of Introduction to Engineering (IED) where they will learn how to use 3D design software.  This is the same software that engineers use in their work.

The 9th grade science classes are also engineering based, Principals of Engineering (POE) and Aerospace engineering physical science offer  hands-on, project based curriculum.

In 10th grade, magnet students can choose Computer Science Engineering (CSE) or Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM).

11th and 12th grade options include Aerospace Engineering (AE), Civil Engineering and Architecture (CEA), Digital Electronics (DE), and Engineering Design and Development (EDD).  Elective classes for 9-12th graders include Fab Lab Make It, Introduction to Flight Simulators, and Scenario Flying in Flight Simulators.

Students can receive college credit in the above PLTW classes by passing the college final at the end of the course.  Johnson also offers Advanced Placement (AP) and College in the School (CIS).

Johnson’s MIT certified Fab Lab includes four 3D printers, two Laser Engravers, Vinyl Cutter, Image Scanner, Wind Tunnel, and a Circuit board maker.  We also have seven state of the art Flight Simulators, comparable to the Air Force Academy in Colorado.

Thus, the Johnson High School Aerospace and Engineering is the premier place to be if a student wishes to excel above and beyond the traditional teaching of regular high school.
