Degrees and Certifications:
Welcome to Ms. Bartol's 5th Grade!
We have an exciting and very full year ahead, one that will be challenging but satisfying. 5th Grade is a big step up, where students begin applying their skills to more difficult concepts in reading, writing, and math.
My father was a career Army man, so my family and I moved around- a lot! I lived in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Indiana, Massachussetts, Rhode Island, New Mexico, and Texas, and spent my high school years in Germany. I have three grown children and three grandsons. When I am not teaching, I enjoy kayaking, Star Wars and other science fiction books and movies, extreme cake decorating, watching the Vikes, playing Pickleball, and hanging out with my family.
Teaching is my second career, as I started out in business. I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education from St. Catherine University, and a Master of Science in Curriculum and Instruction from St. Cloud State University. I have been teaching in St. Paul Public Schools for 26 years, the last 19 of which have been at Chelsea, and I have found my niche with 5th graders. They get my jokes and puns!
Responsibility is a large part of moving up to the 5th Grade. Students strive to become self-directed learners, managing their time, resources and planners with parent assistance and teacher guidance. The student planner is key to student success as organized, self-directed learners. During Distance Learning 2.0 the use of a planner to keep track of academic work and social activities continues to be an important life skill.
I look forward to working as a team with you and your child as we create a successful 5th grade community and learning experience! May the Force Be With You!
