Mrs. Sturm

Meet Mrs. Sturm

Hello, my name is Mrs. Sturm!  I have been teaching and working with students in Saint Paul Public Schools since 1998!   From sixth grade, to third grade, and now second grade, I love building relationships with my students and their families!   I feel really proud to be a part of the Randolph Heights family!   My own two boys attended Randolph Heights Elementary School too because of the high academic rigor and the strong community feeling that is offered here.  I live just down the street so I feel very invested in this close-knit community!  I believe in working closely with families in order to ensure that my students have a successful year in second grade.

I live with my husband and twin boys.  I spent my childhood growing up in Anchorage, Alaska where I went sledding or ice skating at recess.   I also lived in Portland, Oregon for about 10 years and I still go back to visit my family there.  I love spending time on the Oregon Coast and looking for shells or agates.  In the summertime, you will find my family and I in Wisconsin.  We like to fish off the dock, relax in the Yellow River in Wisconsin, go for a ride on our pontoon, paddleboard, or swim in the beautiful Yellow River.

Homework in Second Grade.......

Homework is assigned Monday through Thursday of each week.  A homework folder is sent home each evening with your child's nightly homework inside.  There will be projects assigned throughout the school year which coincide with our history, reading, writing, and math curriculum.  Every student should read his or her books each evening.  Students bring home both a nonfiction and a fiction book daily.   Please help foster your child's reading comprehension by asking them questions about their reading books.  Students should  read their books out loud to a parent in order to help strenghthen their expression and fluency.   In addition to reading homework, there is also a spelling test every Friday.  Spelling words will come home in your child's Friday Folders the week prior to the test.  A math homework sheet is also sent home daily.  This will be a review of the secure skills we have been learning about in math class.  Please look for your child's Friday Folder each week for important information and return it on Monday.  Inside you will also find a weekly newsletter from me!

Stop into our classroom and meet our pet Betta fish, Bob!  Bob is everyone's  favorite member of our class!    He is a male Betta fish and he loves second grade!  He often blows bubbles at the top of his bowl because he is making a bubble nest.   Second graders love feeding and talking to Bob!   He hangs out in our second grade reading corner.
