Instrumental Music (Band)
Welcome back to another exciting year of instrumental music at J. J. Hill!
EDL (Extended Day Learning) band will begin the week of October 8th this year. Beginning students (those who have not completed a full year of band instruction) will meet on Tuesdays after school. Advanced students (those who have completed at least one full year of instruction) will meet on Thursdays after school. Everyone will have a small group lesson and a large group lesson. Bussing will be available to all students.
I will be visiting with the fifth and sixth graders soon. They will get to hear me play the different instruments that are offered (flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, trombone, percussion) so they can hopefully hear a few instruments that "speak to them." I encourage you to expose your fifth or sixth grade student to music that has those instruments so that they might be able to better pick an instrument that they will enjoy playing. I will hand out sign-up sheets at this time. Please rank your choice of instrument (1 = favorite, 2 = second favorite, 3 = third favorite).
The folks at Cadenza music store will host an "instrument fair" on Thursday, September 27th from 3:00 to 6:00. This is a chance for parents and students see instruments and to talk with Cadenza about rental instruments and books (we are using "Essential Elements 2000" again this year). I also have a limited number of school instruments that I will rent out free of charge. Please come and talk to me if you would like to rent from the school.
