ABOUT OBAMA ELEMENTARY
Our school is a family-friendly place that works closely with parents to ensure the success of all students.
Students proudly prepare to become leaders in our community through core subjects along with fun and engaging activities. Classes include Science, Physical Education, Technology, Art and African Drumming enrichment. Our School-Wide Enrichment model allows all of our scholars to explore and build upon their individual interests and talents through student-selected enrichment clusters. We also have a dynamic MakerSpace that all of our classrooms have the opportunity to use, complete with 3-D printers, robotics, sewing machines and more.
Come visit one of the most beautiful elementary school media centers in the district. Community partnerships, volunteers who provide mentorship and role modeling, and a focus on family engagement make Obama a supportive and lively school.
School Hours: 7:30AM - 2:00PM
Obama scholars will be allowed in the building at 7:15 a.m. each day. Please do not drop your child at school prior to 7:15 a.m., as there is no adult supervision! We want your children to be safe. Classes start promptly at 7:30 a.m. Dismissal begins at 1:55. Please call by 1:30 if the pick up plan changes for your child or send a note with your child.
Our school uses an automated phone system. You can access the person or voicemail you want by entering the extension during the phone message.
Our 24-hour attendance line number is 651-744-7283. Scholars are expected to be in school each day. If for some reason your child will be absent, tardy, or leave early, you must notify us.
An unexcused tardy after 10:45 counts as a full day of unexcused absence.
If there are extenuating circumstances keeping your child from attending school, we encourage you do discuss this with your child's teacher or one of our School Counselors. If your child recieves 3 or more unexcused absences throughout the school year, you will get a notification letter from the school. At 5 unexcused absences, Ramsey County will invite you to a group informational meeting regarding your child's attendance. At 10 or more unexcused absences, Ramsey County considers the attendance issue as educational neglect and an individual parent meeting with a County attorney may be scheduled.
The back parking lot is used for scholars who are being dropped off and picked up. Please enter the back lot from Grotto Avenue (west side) and exit on to St. Albans Avenue (east side). In the morning the back door will be opened from 7:15-7:30. Scholars dropped off after 7:30am must enter through the front entrance and stop in the office for a tardy slip. When picking up your child you will need to park your car and enter into the cafeteria to sign your scholar out. This is for the scholars’ safety. Scholars who get picked up must be picked up by 2:10pm. After 2:10pm, parents must come in to the front office to pick up.
Parent parking is unfortunately very limited. There are two 15-minute parking spots in the small parking lot on Holly. Parents arriving for an extended visit will need to find street parking. There is no parking on the north side of Holly. Saint Paul Parking Enforcement does ticket cars parked on Holly, Grotto, and St Albans during the school day.
Please access the building via the front entrance only. All other doors remain securely locked. You will sign in at the office and receive a visitor’s badge. The visitor’s badge must be worn at all time during your stay at Obama to ensure the safety of the children.
Free meals are available to all scholars. Breakfast and lunch are served on the first day and every day. Classroom teachers will pass out PIN numbers on the first day of school.
