• Notices to Parents

The law requires all school districts to send notification letters to the parents of English Learners every year to inform parents of services, testing and assessment results. The following notifications are in place so parents know and understand what services and information they and thier child have a right to receive or refuse.  These notifications are mailed directily to the students home or shared with families at conference time.

    Notification of Services

Students who qualify for EL service based on their score on the WIDA Screener receive a notification of services letter within 30 days of the beginning of the school year, or within two weeks if the child enters the district during the course of the year.  The parent letter notification includes the most recent English Langauge proficiency assessment. This letter is available in Hmong, Spanish, Somali, Karen, Oromo, Amharic. Parents receive this communication translated into the language indicated in the database for communication preference.

    Notification of Testing

Students who qualify for EL services are also elligible for an annual assessment that measures progress toward English language proficiency in the four domains of reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Notification of this test is given to families prior to the assessment date.

    Notification of Assessment Results

ACCESS Parent/Guardian Guide to the Individual Student Report (ISR) should be given to parents in the fall at the first parent/teacher conference, or sent home with the students. This report shows the students English language proficiency levels in listening, speaking, reading and writing.
