Construction Technology

  • Woodworking, Beginning
    Prerequisite: None

    Course number: T402111
    Course Length: 2 Quarters
    Course Description:
In this beginning woodworking course, students will demonstrate the safe and proper use of hand tools and operation of selected woodworking power equipment in the construction of assigned project(s).

    Woodworking, Intermediate
    Prerequisite: Woodworking, Beginning

    Course Number: T402121
    Course Length: 1 semester/quarter
    Course Description:
This course allows students to continue their exploration on woodworking. Class activities may include: understand blueprint reading, use abbreviations and symbols, use and apply accurate measurements in the construction of projects, determine material requirements when ordering lumber, incorporate step-by-step procedure planning, demonstrate satisfactory level of competence when operating woodworking hand tools and power equipment, and understand finishing process.

    Woodworking, Advanced

This course allows students to continue their exploration on woodworking. Class activities may include: understand blueprint reading, use abbreviations and symbols, use and apply accurate measurements in the construction of projects, determine cost estimation and material requirements when ordering lumber, incorporate step-by-step procedure planning, demonstrate satisfactory level of competence when operating woodworking hand tools and power equipment, and understand finishing process.

    Construction Technology
    Prerequisite: none

    Course Number: T404501
    Course Length: Semester/quarter
    Course Description:
Provide students with an overall and elementary understanding of the construction materials and processes.

    Construction Systems and Design
    Prerequisite: none

    Course Number: T404511
    Course Length: 1 year
    Course Description:
This course will explore construction and its relation to the major technology clusters. Students will be introduced to the design process and the use of drafting as a “language”, in the construction industry. Students will acquire knowledge of computational and measurement skills and technologies used in drafting and construction. Student will use technical skills to create plans for designing and constructing structures or analyzing existing structures. Students will gain supervised learning experience working on Habitat for Humanity home sites.

    Construction Geometry Accelerated
    Prerequisite: Algebra 1 Accelerated

    Course number: T434521
Course Length: Two Quarters (Tech Ed), Four Quarters (Math)
    Course Description:
This class is a great opportunity for both girls and boys to learn geometry by working with wood. Students will explore geometric concepts by applying what is learned in the math classroom to hands-on woodworking projects. Each activity will be part of an overall group project of building a scale model house. Projects will cover mathematical concepts of linear, area, and volume measurement; polygons; symmetry; angles; circles; trigonometry; and proportion.

Students will spend part of their class time in the math classroom and part of their class time working hands on in the wood shop. Students will also learn and demonstrate the safe and proper use of hand tools and the operation of selected woodworking power equipment in the construction of assigned projects.

    Home Maintenance and Repair
    Prerequisite: none

    Course number: T404111
    Course Length: 2 Quarters
    Course Description:
This course will give the student a basic understanding of common tools and repair techniques necessary to maintain a home. The student will learn by making repairs on actual structural components of the home using appropriate tools, materials and processes. The course will offer practical advice about when to seek professional help.
