Hello! My name is Ashley Rignell and I am a Licensed School Counselor at Como Park Senior High School. I am the counselor for the Class of 2021 (11th grade).
During my senior year in high school, I read the book "There are No Children Here" by Alex Kotlowitz which tells the story of two boys growing up in the Chicago housing projects. In that moment, I knew I wanted to pursue a career that allowed me to mentor youth and increase access to opportunity for kids from diverse backgrounds. I graduated from Winona State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and a double minor in Spanish and Women's and Gender Studies. After Winona, I moved to Chicago and completed a Master's Degree in Education (School Counseling) at Loyola University Chicago. I worked as a school counselor within Chicago Public Schools at a Military Academy on the south side of Chicago for 6 years and gained valuable experience working with inner-city youth.
In 2015, I moved to Minnesota and worked for a year as a counselor at a charter school in Brooklyn Park. I was thrilled to be offered the position at Como Park Senior High School starting the 16-17 school year. I am determined to work tirelessly for my students to help develop the knowledge, skills, and resources needed to pursue your dreams!
