A Day in Mrs. Cannon's Class
Welcome to 3rd grade in room 2101! My name is Carrie Cannon, and I am thrilled to begin my eighth year at Chelsea Heights! I have been teaching in St. Paul Public Schools for 22 years and love working at this fantastic school!
We will be doing a lot of fun and challenging activities in third grade. We will begin each day with a Morning Meeting, where we'll greet each other, share information about our lives, and play fun games as a community.
Students will spend every morning writing in their Writer's Notebooks during Writing Workshop. We'll work on various units, including Memoir, Book Review, Poetry, and Report. We'll also dedicate time each day to spelling and skills work, focusing our time on identifying spelling patterns, rules for writing, and transferring what we learn to our writing every day.
We'll spend each day reinforcing math concepts we have learned and learning new concepts using Math Review, Mental Math, and Standards Based Math Lessons. We'll get time each week to play math games in the classroom, as well as on our iPads.
During Reading, students will have opportunities to read and discuss texts in shared reading, partner reading, reading groups and independently. We'll work on comprehension strategies as well as responding to what we've read orally and in writing.
We'll have Social Studies several days each week, and learn a lot about democracy, ancient civilizations, geography and St. Paul History.
I will be sending a Weekly Newsletter home each Friday. The newsletter is a great way to stay informed and it will have information about classroom activities and events for the upcoming week. I can be reached by phone at 651-293-8790 and by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
