Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) Officers 2017-2018

  • Kate Herold, PTO Co-Chair (

kateherold My name is Kate Herold, and my husband Moin Syed and I will have one 5th grader and two 1st graders at Capitol Hill next year. We have been a happy Capitol Hill family for four years now. I work full-time as a community college psychology professor, and my areas of specialty are child development and early childhood education. I love kids and I love Capitol Hill!

In my spare time I like to read, watch TV that most people think is bad but that I think is amazing, do a dance fitness class called Oula, work on political campaigns and make new friends. As co-chair of the PTO I hope to build and strengthen bonds across our school community. I’d love to meet you, please email or say Hi!

    Owen King, PTO Co-Chair (

Hello - I'm Owen.  My wife Rachele and I crossed the river to Saint Paul 11 years ago and built our 'forever home'.  We have three children ages 11, 8 and 3.  The older two will be entering 6th and 3rd grade at Capitol Hill.  I work for United Technologies Corporation in CT so I get to work from home.  When I'm not in my basement managing their software, I like to coach basketball, read a lot, and generally spend time with family.

I am excited to serve in a leadership capacity on the PTO for the next two years.  After watching the incredible work that the PTO has done during our 5 years at the school, I hope to continue making Capitol Hill a wonderful school for all of our children.  I look forward to building more relationships with families and staff.

    Kristen Cornelius, Treasurer (

Hello, I am the proud mother of one son, Max who is in 7th grade.  I am a St. Paul native and we have been part of the Capitol Hill community since 2013.  I feel fortunate that my son goes to Capitol Hill, not only for the education but also for the inclusive environment and passionate people at Capitol Hill.  I look forward to serving as the treasurer of the PTO.

    Deepa Nirmal, Secretary

deepanirmal Hi! I'm Deepa. My husband Manoj and I have a fifth grader and a third grader at Capitol Hill this year, so it’s our fifth year being part of the CH family. We think the world of this amazing community and see evidence every day of how our kids are thriving here.

In my day job I work in learning and development, with adults though! My “superpowers” include cooking, gardening, and competitive knitting and crochet (I have a collection of State Fair ribbons). I work with my colleagues to promote awareness of South Asian culture and also volunteer with the Hamline Midway branch of the St. Paul Public Library. It's a privilege to serve on the PTO board and I look forward to making connections with many of you and strengthening our community.
