More than 450 St. Paul student artists, vocalists, and instrumentalists will showcase their skills during the annual Honors Concert on April 21 at the Ordway Center for the Performing Arts. The annual showcase, is in partnership with Saint Paul Public Schools (SPPS), Ordway Center for Performing Arts and The M (Minnesota Museum of American Art).
The Honors Concert will feature a performance by high school orchestra, band, and choir students conducted by guest conductors, and accompanied by Thomas Bartsch. The event will also include a student Performance Showcase prior to the concert in the Target Atrium.
“The Honors Concert celebrates the wonderful accomplishments of students in our community and encourages their continued growth in the performing arts,” said Jamie Grant, Ordway president and CEO. “It’s a privilege for the Ordway to partner with these phenomenal organizations and host this annual event.”
Since 1992, the annual Honors events have featured the musical and artistic talents of nearly 9,500 Saint Paul students through vocal and instrumental performances, spoken word poetry, and visual art exhibitions. Students are selected to participate through auditions and art submissions.
“This event showcases the tremendous talent of our SPPS students,” said an SPPS representative. “For many of them, it’s the first time they’ve performed onstage at a professional theater or had their artwork in a professional gallery. It’s a thrill to see the excitement and confidence this event brings to them.”
General admission tickets to the Honors Concert are $5 and can be purchased by phone at 651-224-4222 or online at Ordway.org.
Student artworks will also be shown in the Honors Visual Art Exhibition at The M. The exhibition is free and open to the public and will feature selected paintings, drawings, photographs, sculptures, and other works submitted by SPPS students. Select students will recieve awards from Ordway Center, Saint Paul Public Schools, Wet Paint Artists' Materials and Framing, Blick Art Materials, Triarco and, School Specialty. This event is free and open to the public.
