5th Grade News November 30, 2017
We can hardly believe that tomorrow is the first day of December! It was a very busy month with a fundraising, student –led conferences and Thanksgiving break. We are finishing up on our second Unit of Inquiry: Where We Are In Place And Time: Indigenous People. Our next Unit of Inquiry is How We Organize Ourselves: Government Systems. In this unit students will be learning about different types of government systems, how our government was created and will have an opportunity to participate in “BizTown”. JA BizTown is a 10,000 square foot kid-sized city within Junior Achievement headquarters in Maplewood, MN. Several weeks of classroom learning culminates in a day-long visit to this fully-interactive simulated free market lab where students become adults for a day.
Daily 5/ CAFÉ is back in full swing. Students have settled into working on reading goals and strategies. Students continue to work hard with the Daily Language Review. As a large group read aloud, we are now reading How to Steal A Dog by Barbara O’Connor.
In math we are currently finishing up on Unit 4, Multiplication with Whole Numbers and Decimals. Unit 5 will focus on Division with Whole Numbers and Decimals. Thank you for supporting your student with daily math homework. Please feel free to contact any of the math teachers.
Thank you for returning things that have been sent home to you to discuss with your child as well as signing the planner every night. Communication is very important to help move your child forward in their learning.
