BA Music Education-University of Wisconsin Parkside MA Teaching with ELL Emphasis-Hamline University
Ms. Dawn Windham
My name is Dawn Windham. I grew up in Racine, Wisconsin. I received a BA in Music Education from the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, Master of Arts in Teaching with an EL emphasis from Hamline University and am currently working on my Administrator's License at Hamline University (to be completed 12/20). This is my sixth year teaching 5th grade in St Paul Public Schools and my third year at Galtier. I have four grown children. Jordan is 29 and lives in Chicago. Zac is 25 and lives with my son Eli (24) downtown St Paul. And Elizabeth (Effy) who lives at home and is a junior at Bethel studying to be a Spanish/ESL teacher. My husband Chipp is a principal in St Paul. And I have a beautiful German Shorthaired Pointer named Freya.
I am a HUGE proponent of personalized learning.
To me personalized learning is about: Incorporating Self-Reflection and Goal-Setting, Flexible and Intentional Schedule, Using Digital Content and Tools in a Purposeful Way, Flexible Seating, Involving Students in Grading Conversations, Incorporating Personalized Playlists (see below).
With playlists, the responsibility for executing the learning plan shifts: Students are given the unit plan, including access to all the lessons (in text or video form), ahead of time. With the learning plan in hand, students work through the lessons and assignments at their own pace. And because each student has her own digital copy of the playlist (delivered through Schoology on their Ipads), I can customize the list to meet each student’s needs.
Please feel free to contact me if you have ANY questios or concerns...or would like to volunteer in our classroom.
