About: 

My name is Brian Blakely, and I was born and raised in St Paul, Minnesota. I completed my undergraduate degree in Duluth, Minnesota at the University of MN, Duluth (class of 2006) and my Masters in Education at Brooklyn College. I began teaching in Brooklyn, New York where I taught fifth and sixth grades as a special education teacher (K224 and K133). I moved to Casablanca, Morocco, where I taught for four years at the Casablanca American School. Starting a family made me want to move back to Minnesota to raise my kids, and so I returned to St Paul where I taught EBD (Emotional and Behavioral Disabilities) at Parkway Montessori for three years. I am now in my second year at Global Arts Plus, working with grades 5 and 6 students with Specific Learning Disabilities and as a reading and writing co-teacher with gr. 6.

In my fourteen year career as an educator I have worked with students from across cultures and ability levels, seeking to help them become their best selves and express their genius. I believe our scholars learn best when they are valued members of a classroom, community and world. I seek to incorporate the cultural and linguistic diversity of students into the curriculum, build interdisciplinary studies that encourage multiple forms of expression, and create enduring relationships with and between students that are based upon mutual respect, inquiry and understanding.

Family and community is very important to me, and I am honored to be a supportive part of your family and community this year at Global Arts Plus.
