    • Benjamin Lacina: SPPS Supervisor of the Office of Talent Development and Acceleration Services. Slides from presentation here.
      • Shared background in SPPS, Gifted & Talented, Arts. Has been in current role for 1.5 years.
      • Encouraged thinking beyond just academic readiness and the importance of exploration for all kids as well as self-knowledge
      • Played a game with meeting attendees encouraging thinking around Depth of Knowledge using reality TV shows
      • Shared a google document in which families can send him feedback, here.
      • Expressed an interest in developing a relationship with families at the meeting and his hope to come back again
      • Slides from presentation will be forthcoming.
    • Principal Hodges Update
      • Dale Street Bridge project has been delayed for a couple of weeks. Will significantly affect AM drop-off. School will be communicating changes soon, including with diagrams.
      • Elementary School teachers engaged in nailing down math program at Capitol Hill.
      • Middle School teachers working to implement Phase II of the Middle School Model at Capitol Hill.
      • It's not too late to fill out the mission and vision survey to ensure Capitol Hill is moving in the right direction:






      •  Need SPPS School Fair volunteers, 9:30 - 2, January 25 at Union Depot. Share your experience of Capitol Hill with prospective parents. Please sign up for a 45 minute shift here.

    • Treasurer Update: January 2020 Budget
      • We are still $13K away from direct drive goal.
      • PTO voted on funding teachers enrichment cluster request of $2K in the fall.
    • Announcements - contact to get involved
      • PTO hoping to build community in middle school. Parent Sara Barney talked about a Punch fundraiser on 1/20 in which funds will go towards community building events like game night/ice cream social. Middle School not doing APEX.
      • Celebration of Community (think Spring Carnival for adults) date set at March 20th. At event, parents, caregivers, teachers, and staff donate money to the school to participate in community building events like homecooked meals and social gatherings hosted by Capitol Hill community members. Libby Starling is co-chairing the event and there is a great need for volunteers. 
      • Dr. Veglia, school nurse, is looking for volunteers who can help with Vision Screening (Jan 28, 10-12:30 pm, 12:30-3pm; Jan 29, 1:30-3:30). Email her at if you can help.
      • PTO looking for 1 parent who can work with Principal Hodges to craft a video to help with meeting Direct Drive goals.
      • PTO looking for parents who can write thank you notes. This volunteer activity can be done at home!
