JESSICA KOPP | Director
Jessica Kopp joined the Saint Paul School Board in January 2020. She and her family have been residents of Saint Paul for the past 24 years, with 20 of them in the Midway neighborhood. The Kopp family has been in SPPS since 2008, beginning with ECFE classes. Their daughter attended their neighborhood elementary school, and is currently a middle-schooler in SPPS. In addition to serving as a board member, Jessica is also a community organizer. In her free time, she enjoys watching soccer, going to concerts and plays, reading, and writing. She was inspired to join the Board from experience in advocating for and organizing with her daughter's elementary school and community, which was one of the most meaningful experiences for Jessica. She was able to gain practical experience addressing the challenges and opportunities related to enrollment, communication, community partnerships, educational innovation, and so much more. It planted the seed of what was possible when you organize people to do good work together. Special interests include building great schools in every St. Paul neighborhood, board communication and engagement, leading and supporting meaningful partnership work, regular and expansive conversations about public education in St. Paul, and diversifying who teaches our kids and what and how we teach them. Jessica's favorite aspect of Saint Paul Public Schools is that in addition to the variety of programs available to PreK-12 students in both general and special education, SPPS supports the littlest learners in our communities through ECFE and community members over the age of 18 through adult basic education programs. There’s something powerful about a community growing and learning together throughout their lives and she is excited to do her part to help these programs grow and prosper.A few interesting facts about Jessica are that she was the captain of the high school’s boys’ varsity soccer team (there was only one team), to date she seen Pearl Jam in concert 15 times – spanning four countries and five states, and she makes really good chocolate chip cookies.
