Mr. Dana Zimmerman
My contribution to my profession is to inspire, empower, and give students the tools necessary to see their potential through movement exploration and movement fundamentals. My educational training is in Physical Education, Health and Adapted Physical Education and I have six years of experience as a full-time Physical Education and Adapted Physical Teacher with K-12 students , and 2 more at International School of Dhaka in Bangladesh. I was born with Cerebral Palsy (CP) in my right extremities. However, since I started teaching in 2003, students have seen my “ limitations” as an inspiration to do more in my classes. Living with CP has allowed me to use a diverse approach to my teaching lessons and including all students. In addition to having engaging movement-focused lesson plans, I also interweave character education, emotional development, and cross-curricular into my approach.
Since completing a Master’s degree in Physical Education, I have also taught courses at the University of Wisconsin – River Falls to undergraduate students in the Adapted Physical Education minor. Educating others about making modifications for persons with disabilities has been a passion of mine since I competed in the 1996 and 2000 Paralympics Games. I was honored to represent my country and win a silver medal in the 1500 meter track event after years of training. I feel this demonstrates my extreme focus, determination, will, and hard work it takes to do great things.I certainly look forward every day to continuing my commitment to each and every student.
