SYSTEMIC EQUITY

Systemic equity is one of the primary pillars of Saint Paul Public Schools' SPPS Achieves strategic plan. The district is using American Rescue Plan funds to deliberately and strategically invest in programs and processes designed to make SPPS a more equitable place to learn and to work. The strategies detailed below include building a district equity plan and a concerted effort to recruit and retain more educators of color.

Development of a districtwide equity plan that addresses policies, procedures, practices and programming that are not inclusive or equitable to ensure that every educator is equipped to address racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia and other forms of discrimination and their impacts.

Continuous equity training, coaching and support for staff at every SPPS school to ensure educators have the skill, will, knowledge, capacity and courage to successfully teach our diverse student population.

Recruiting & Retaining Diverse Staff

Recruitment and Retention of Teachers of Color
Human Resources and the Office of Teaching and Learning will improve hiring processes, strengthen relationships with Institutes of Higher Education, expand supports for new educators, offer supports for educators of color, and use data to strengthen recruitment and retention practices for teachers of color.

Recruitment and Retention of Diverse Special Education Paraprofessionals
Recruit diverse special education paraprofessionals and retain them through mentoring and training so students receiving special education services have the support they need.
