Assistant Principal Brett Asleson
Welcome to this new school year! My name is Brett Asleson and I am proud to be the Assistant Principal at Benjamin E. Mays IB World School.
I hold a bachelor’s degree in teaching from Minnesota State University Moorhead, a Masters in Literacy from Saint Mary’s University in Minneapolis, and an Educational Specialist and K-12 Principal’s License from Minnesota State University Mankato. My tenure is SPPS began in 2010 with me working in Special Education at Como High School, then working with our multilingual learners at LEAP High School, coaching and leading our new to SPPS staff as a Peer Asssistance and Review (PAR) Coach, and then leading as a Literacy Coach between Humboldt and Washington High Schools.
My elementary experience comes from my time as a PAR Coach working with elementary schools in SPPS and as a United States Peace Corps volunteer where I served as a 1st-6th grade teacher in the Kingdom of Tonga on a small island 4 miles long by 1/2 mile wide called Lifuka. I have two children, Aubrey and Jude and a wonderful wife, Kate.
I am excited and honored to be working at Benjamin E. Mays this year. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me.
