Board Initiated Goals Governance (B.I.G.G.)
The Board of Education has adopted the Board Initiated Goals Governance (B.I.G.G) governance model, which emphasizes student outcomes goals, programmatic goals, district relations goals, and internal goals.
Board members conducted extensive community engagement sessions to gather meaningful input from students, families, staff and community members and used this feedback to develop and amend these goals.
The goals developed through this collaborative process reflect the shared aspirations and priorities of the Saint Paul community.
There will be a regular assessment of progress toward these goals will inform the Board’s oversight and decision-making.
The Board voted to adopt these goals at the Regular Meeting on May 20, 2025.
PROGRESS MONITORING
Board Initiated Goals Governance (B.I.G.G.) will guide and report the progress of Student Outcome goals twice per school year at regularly-scheduled Board of Education meetings (both Committee of the Board and Regular Meetings.)
Progress on Programmatic Goals will be reported out one per school year at regularly-scheduled Board of Education meetings.
At each scheduled Board of Education meeting throughout the year, a report on the progress towards Students Outcomes or Programmatic Goals will be presented.
ACCOUNTABILITY MONITORING CALENDAR
At the Committee of the Board Meeting on September 9, 2025, the Reporting Framework for Board Initiated Goals Governance (B.I.G.G.) was presented, including a calendar of the Accountability Monitoring Calendar for August 2025-July 2026.
FINAL FEEDBACK ON B.I.G.G. SURVEY - SUMMARY OF RESULTS
The Saint Paul Public Schools (SPPS) School Board sought final input on the goals established for their Board-Initiated Goals Governance. To gather this feedback, parents, families, community members, educators, administrators, and district staff were invited to share their opinions. The survey link was shared via email, the Bridge, the Principal’s Playbook, among others.
