Professional Development

We have several trainings available for staff, but we are also open to working with individual staff, departments, and/or school sites to provide tailored trainings, coaching and consulting, and other forms of support. Current professional development offerings and Schoology groups may be viewed in the Office of Equity’s catalog.

Gender Equity Handbook

Out for Equity conducted Best Practice research thanks to the generous contribution of the Kevin J. Mossier Foundation in 2013 for work on the Safe Schools Manual. The Gender Equity Handbook, updating the Safe Schools Manual, is a comprehensive resource at your fingertips! In addition to our Best Practice findings, the manual includes:

  • Content on LGBTQ+ issues

  • Tips for starting and developing GSAs (now called Gender and Sexuality Alliances)

  • Useful facts and statistics

  • Thorough selection of the LGBTQ+ youth-serving local and national organizations and websites

  • Practical strategies to make schools more safe and respectful for all students, families, and staff

  • A toolkit of practical suggestions for school staff to create safe space for all students to succeed in school

  • A primer for running school-based support groups, including activities, professional resources, and psychological theory
