Employee Eligibility

Employee Eligibility for Benefits

If you are scheduled to work 20 hours or more and you are not a temporary employee, you must enroll within 30 days of hire and please refer to your Labor Agreement or the Benefits Summary to view your eligibility criteria for the start date of your coverage

Newly eligible employees will be invited to a benefits orientation session. During this session you will learn about the insurance options available such as medical plans, dental, vision, optional life insurance, short term disability and long term disability.

Benefit elections need to be made within 30 days from your start date.

If you do not complete the online enrollment within the 30 days from your hire date, core coverage required under your respective bargaining unit will be set up.  You will not be able to make any changes until the next Open Enrollment period or with a Qualified Status Change. Please refer to your Labor Agreement or the Benefits Summary to view your eligibility criteria.

This site provides detailed information regarding your benefit options as an employee of SPPS.  If you have questions or need additional assistance, please contact the Human Resources Department at 651-767-8200 or send an email to the Benefits Team, Benefits@spps.org.

Dependent Eligibility for Benefits

Eligible dependents of eligible employees may participate in the medical and dental plans as well. These include spouse, child(ren), stepchild(ren), foster child(ren), adopted child(ren), and child(ren) under legal guardianship.  Children are considered dependent up to age 26 or without age restriction if disabled and incapable of self-care. If grandchild(ren), employee must be responsible for majority of support of the child(ren) for eligibility.  Parents and domestic partners are not eligible dependents, as defined in the master contract with the healthcare provider. Your dependents are eligible on the day you become eligible, on the date you acquire that dependent, on the date of or the first of the month following a qualifying status change, as applicable.
