Directions for Linked Sections
If you have linked multiple sections of the same course in Schoology:
- Grade settings like categories, weights, and grading scales are automatically applied across linked sections
- Campus configuration must be completed for each section, even when those sections are linked.
Check out the step-by-step tutorial below to learn how to correctly navigate your grade settings, build and weight categories, choose a grading scale, and configure Campus Grade syncing for each section:
Troubleshooting
schoology grade setup
Troubleshoot Your Schoology Grade Setup
- Make sure Schoology categories are Formative, Summative, Unweighted. Use the default of "Total Points " rather than "Percent"
- Make sure Schoology category weights match the preset weight in Infinite Campus. See the table at the bottom of this page for more information.
- Make sure Schoology Categories are calculated based on “Total Points”, not "Percent."
- Schoology Gradebook Categories must be mapped to those in Campus. Map all 3 categories (Formative, Summative, Unweighted), even if you do not plan on using them all. See this guide for help with this step.
- Categories must be mapped for each section, even if your Schoology sections are linked. Categories must be mapped at the start of each quarter.
Schoology Assignment Settings
Troubleshoot Your Schoology Assignment Settings
- Make sure the assignments in Schoology are published.
- Make sure every assignment in Schoology has the Grading Task set to Course Grade.
- Make sure every assignment in Schoology has a Category: Formative, Summative, or Unweighted. Not selecting a category will cause an inaccurate grade to be calculated in Infinite Campus.
- Make sure all assignments in Schoology have a due date.
- If you delete an assignment in Schoology that you have previously synced to Campus, you will need to delete the item in the Campus Gradebook as well.
- Do not use the “Submitted" flag in Schoology as it currently doesn’t sync correctly with Infinite Campus. It is ok to use the missing flag.
- Do not use factoring as it currently doesn't sync correctly with Infinite Campus
Campus Grade Book
Troubleshoot Your Campus Gradebook
- Assignment scores should never be edited in the Infinite Campus Gradebook. Instead, they should be edited in Schoology. After making necessary changes, re-sync your Schoology grade book to update the grades in Infinite Campus.
- If you have deleted an assignment from Schoology, you must delete it from your Campus Gradebook as well.
- Other common Campus Gradebook issues:
- Only some scores synced to Infinite Campus, as show in the screenshot below:

Fix this problem by refreshing the grading task within Schoology:
- In Schoology, select Infinite Campus in the left-hand menu.
- Click on “Refresh Grading Task” in the upper right
- Click on the sync icon for each assignment that shows this issue.
- Do not click on more than one or two at a time to prevent a time-out error.

If you see an "Uncategorized Assignment" alert in your Campus Gradebook, return to your Schoology gradebook and use "bulk edit" to enter the Course Grade task for any assignment missing a grading task. Then re-sync the assignment.

Tips & Reminders
Grade Setup Reminders
Grade Set Up Reminders:
- When setting up formative and summative categories, use the default of "Total Points" rather than "Percent."

- Categories must be configured each quarter, for each section (even if your sections are linked). Click here to learn how to configure your categories. Do not sync before setting up your category configuration.
- Linked sections in Schoology must be synced and configured individually.
- All grade book items must have a grading task, due date, and category assigned in order to be synced. Otherwise, an error will be reported.
- Use the "Bulk Edit" feature within your Schoology grade book to ensure all graded items are published, assigned a category, assigned a Course Grade Task, due date, and Grading Period.

- When creating and grading assignments, remember the following:
- Don’t use the ‘Submitted’ flag in Schoology, it will incorrectly return a zero in Campus.
-
Don’t use ‘Drop Lowest’ in Schoology
-
Don't use factors in Schoology; use the unweighted category instead.
-
Don't use fractions/half of points for assignment total (Example: 5.5)
-
Don’t use “Round Period/Final Grades” in Grade Setup.
- Do not unpublish assignments that have been graded.
Rationale for Grade Sync
Tools Informed by Grade Syncing
Campus Tools informed by Schoology Gradebook Sync
Tools available for Administrators & School Staff:
- Guest Gradebook - Administrators can easily search and view grades and assignments.
- Gradebook Usage Report to show which teachers have entered grades
- Early Warning Tool and Insight Reports to identify students needing academic interventions and understand patterns.
- Academic Planner to view non-passing progress grades and graduation progress.
- Missing Assignments and Student Summary Report to view data for selected students or courses.
Tools available for Teachers
- Advisory Tool to identify students needing academic interventions for missing assignments, non-passing grades.
- Messenger Tool to auto-populate data to send grade messages or missing assignment messages to students and guardians.
- Score Analysis Tool to review classroom performance for one or more assignments. Quickly create student groups or exports lists students based on scores.
- Instruction Reports tool to export student-friendly documents for grades, flagged assignments, and more.
Rationale for Grade Sync:
-
Eliminates Redundant Data Entry: Reduces the need for manual grade input into Campus, particularly during critical reporting periods.
-
Enriches Student Data Systems: Ensures the accurate population of various Campus tools and reports, providing teachers, administrators, and support staff with a holistic, up-to-date view of student academic data, integrated with attendance, behavior, and other key indicators. Learn more about these tools below!
-
Facilitates Proactive Interventions: Empowers Intervention Teams to efficiently identify and address the needs of students requiring academic support. The absence of synchronized data hinders the ability to combine historical assignment information with other crucial student records for timely intervention.
-
Supports Administrative Insights: Provides school administrators with essential data on teacher gradebook usage and enables the proactive identification of students at risk of academic failure or in need of specialized intervention services.
-
Mitigates End-of-Quarter Discrepancies: Helps prevent common grading issues related to end of quarter grade posting, ensuring accuracy and transparency for students and families.
Grade Sync Terminology
Grade Sync: The transfer of gradebook assignment data from Schoology to Infinite Campus.
Grading Category: A group of assignments. Each category has its own aggregated grade calculated from the assignments. There are three categories for grades 6-12: Formative, Summative and Unweighted.
Unweighted: A grading category used for assignments that do not count toward the final course grade.
(Ungraded): A default option in the Schoology assignment dropdown that should not be used, in order to avoid syncing errors. All assignments must be assigned to a specific grading category (Formative, Summative, or Unweighted) to sync correctly.
Gradebook Scale: The scale that translates the in-progress percentage to a letter grade.
In-Progress Grade: A calculation based on assignment scores entered in Schoology and synced to Infinite Campus Gradebook.
Posted Grade: A finalized grade in Infinite Campus that is displayed on a student's report card.
Grading Task: A type of grade that teachers post during a specific time in the quarter. The grading tasks for 6-12 grades are:
Mid-Quarter: Reported half-way through the quarter from the in-progress grade.
Course Grade: Reported at the end of the quarter from the in-progress grade. All assignments must be aligned to this task.
Grade Sync Reminders
Grade Sync Reminders:
- Check the Sync Log regularly for errors. You can find the sync log via the Clipboard icon in the top right of the Schoology grade book.

- Use the "Refresh Grading Tasks" button in the Infinite Campus tab in Schoology if you've synced assignments before selecting a grade task in an assignment.

- If your sync times out and produces errors, there may be too much information being sent from Schoology to Campus. Try syncing individual assignments, not in bulk.

- Assignment scores should not be edited in the Infinite Campus Grade book. Instead, they should be edited in Schoology. After making necessary edits, re-sync the assignment to Infinite Campus.
- If you delete an assignment in Schoology that you have previously synced to Campus, the assignment must be manually deleted in the Campus Gradebook.
- Teachers should sync grades frequently, ideally after entering grades in Schoology. Teachers will post grades in Campus twice per quarter to the mid-quarter task and course grade task (end of quarter).
- Check to be sure posted grades in Campus match grades in Schoology.
