Propose a New Course

Share with Teachers in your department at your school.
- Is anyone else interested in creating the course as well as teaching it?
- How could you demonstrate if students are interested in taking the course?
- How might a new course impact other courses offered in your department?
Share with your school's Principal and Scheduling Team.
- Does the new course fit into the school’s career pathways and specialty programs?
- Are college partners and contracts involved? If so, are there written agreements that impact scheduling, such as class size limits?
- What information does your school principal need to know to decide if they approve
- What, if any, financial resources are needed to start and maintain this class? (i.e. curriculum writing time, books, disposable materials, etc.)
Share with your department’s District Content Lead.
- Are there existing courses in the district that could be used?
- Are there other teachers and schools in the district that would benefit from this course or are willing to assist with its creation?

They may approve the course as is or with minor suggested changes on the syllabus. When approved, a new course number will be added to the school’s upcoming calendar.
They may deny the course. If this happens, a course number will not be added.
They may approve the course on a probationary status. If a course is approved on probation, the teacher(s) teaching the course must agree to data collection and information-sharing. The Content Lead will determine whether to ' tenure' the course or remove it from the course catalog before registration for the following year.

Deadlines for the 2024-2025 School Year:

Wednesday, November 15, 2023 - Deadline for teachers to submit any new courses for approval for 24-25 SY. Submissions after this date may not be considered for the 24-25 SY.
Friday, December 1, 2023 - Deadline for District Departments to approve new courses and changes to existing courses. All changes and additions must be communicated to the Campus Team.
Wednesday, December 20, 2023 - Updated Course Catalog will be available for schools and staff.
