The Check and Connect program mentors K-12 students who show warning signs of disengagement with school and who are at risk of dropping out.

The summary below combines the following ARP strategies:

• Internships and Certifications for High School Students: Provide opportunities for students to explore different careers, work with professionals, develop new skills and build their resumes through paid internships and completing industry certifications in the Earn As You Learn program.
• Career Centers and Curriculum at High Schools: Each comprehensive high school will offer courses that align with various Career Pathways to allow students to pursue their interests and develop potential postsecondary learning and career plans. Students also have the opportunity to take advanced courses and training in the Districtwide Career Pathway Program.
• Integration of Career Curriculum into Core Content: Provide students with career-related curriculum and experiences connected to their interests and strengths, so they are more likely to enroll in and continue with postsecondary opportunities related to their career ambitions. 

Expand EDL Plus to multiple elementary schools to provide after-school learning opportunities to K-5 students. EDL Plus helps students feel more engaged in learning by discovering new skills and interests through hands-on, project-based experiences.

Expand the Flipside program to provide after-school academic and enrichment opportunities for youth at every middle school. At Flipside, students discover new interests and talents, build relationships with adults and peers, and develop a strong sense of belonging at school.

High-quality training for coaches, improved operational systems, and leadership opportunities and scholarship support for student-athletes will provide more opportunities and valuable life lessons that enhance the athletes’ academic and social skills beyond their high school years.

Freedom Schools are a free, six-week summer program for scholars in grades K-8 that provide comprehensive, culturally relevant summer academic and enrichment for children in high-poverty areas.
