Staff Technology Resources

All student and staff iPads are pre-configured with functionality customized for education. Saint Paul Public Schools actively works with several security vendors to create and update security policies. Most relevant to this conversation is the “JAMF” mobile device (iPad & Macbook) management system. JAMF is a Minnesota - based company, one of the leading companies nationwide and worldwide managing Apple devices.

• Staff can install common work-related applications based on job title through “Self Service” on their Macbook or iPad without a password or purchase. For additional information, review the App and Website Approval process.
• Staff can sign in to a personal Apple ID on district provided iPads or Macbook to download other purchased applications, though district internet filters may prevent some applications working while on SPPS Wifi (for example, Netflix, Snapchat or other non-academic tools)

Immediately report the theft of SPPS technology resources to local law enforcement, the Service Desk, and your supervisor.

Theft Inside the District:

• Submit a technology support ticket with detailed information about the theft.  Be sure to include the date, approximate time, and location of the theft; a description of the stolen device(s);  and the case number you received from law enforcement. Be as specific as possible.
• The Technology Services Department will respond to the ticket during published hours of operation with the IP address and other applicable information about the stolen device.
• The site must forward the information provided by the Technology Services Department to law enforcement as applicable to be added to the police report.
• Building administration should notify the Security and Emergency Management Department as applicable.

Theft Outside of the District:

• Inform local law enforcement and file a police report as applicable.
• Submit a technology support ticket with detailed information about the theft.  Be sure to include the date, approximate time, and location of the theft; a description of the stolen device(s); and the case number you received from local law enforcement.  Be as specific as possible.

• The user must forward the information provided by the Technology Services Department to law enforcement to be added to the police report.

To ensure the integrity of SPPS technology resources, immediately submit a service ticket to report a security incident or even a potential problem.  The Service Desk will record the incident to ensure that the issue is investigated and documented.  Please also notify your supervisor.

What is a Security Incident?

A computer security incident is any attempted or successful breach, misuse of, or damage to computing systems, data, or networks.  This includes unauthorized access; disclosure of passwords or data; and theft of equipment.  A computer security incident may involve any or all of the following:

• Computer or device theft
• Violation of district policies and Guidelines for Acceptable Use of Technology
• Sharing or revealing passwords
• Unauthorized computer or system access
• Posting of confidential or restricted data to a publicly-accessible web site
• A denial of service attack against data, a network, or a computer
• Misuse of services, systems, or information
• Vandalism or physical damage to a district technology resource
• Unusual network connections to a computer
• Sudden appearance of unexpected or unusual programs on a district technology resource
• Presence of a virus, spyware, or other malicious program

Student Misuse / Abuse of District Technology Resources

Incidents involving student misuse or abuse of district technology resources must be reported to the building or program administrator, and will be dealt with at the building level in accordance with the discipline guidelines established in the Student Rights and Responsibilities Handbook. Minor incidents such as removing keys from keyboards should be dealt with at the building level.  The building or program administrator must immediately report serious incidents involving unauthorized computer or system access; malicious abuse of technology systems; and theft.

To report a potential suspicious or phishing email using the Report Suspicious Button for Outlook desktop, follow the steps below.

1. Click on the Report Suspicious button. This button should be located in the Outlook toolbar. (It will 5 seconds for the button to initiate.) a.

A content filter is a tool designed to control which websites, videos, search results, and other Internet content are visible and accessible. It's used to protect students and families from harmful content on the Internet, and to prevent access to distracting, inappropriate, or dangerous sites.

The following categories and examples are types of websites and content that the filter can block on student iPads and the SPPS network. When a website is blocked, students and staff will see an image like this when attempting to open the page.

SPPS Staff should submit a Technology Support Ticket to add a page to the blocked list or add an inadvertently blocked page to the approved list.
