6144 Education Assistants - EA2 Parent Involvement

6144 - Education Assistant (EA2 Parent Involvement)

Schools may use TI funds to pay for an Education Assistant whose purpose is to support the implementation of strategies to support parent engagement activities in the school. Many times EA’s are bilingual and are members of their community and serve as an important link between their community and the school helping parents to access opportunities and resources that the school has to offer them. Their essential job functions would include:

  • Establish and maintain a Parent Resource/Family Involvement Center which may include ordering materials, record keeping, checking in/out materials, meeting with parents and engaging parents in school activities.
  • Perform monitoring and follow-up activities with families, including home visits, gathering information about family needs, making referrals to appropriate resources, providing information to parents about educational programming, and identifying/providing activities beneficial to families.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication channels between parents and school staff through home visits, telephone contact, and distribution of flyers and other written communications.
  • Plan and coordinate parent/family involvement activities and training sessions by scheduling times/places, making arrangements for speakers, advertising the event, organizing child care, and participating in events.
  • Maintain accurate records of family contacts and involvement; assist parents with completing forms as needed; assist with completion of annual parent surveys.
  • Attend building and community meetings/programs as required.

Procedure:

  1. All positions must be supplemental in nature.
     
  2. Consult with your Title I program manager or supervisor prior to submitting the requisition. 
     
  3. Follow district procedures for hiring.
     
  4. For any employees paid totally by Title I funds, supervisors must complete semi-annual certifications which verify that the employee has worked 100% on the federal grant for the first half of the year. Semi-annual certification is completed every six months, once in early January and again in early July. The supervisor will be notified via email to log into PeopleSoft to complete the Semi-Annual Certification.
     
  5. For any employee whose activities are paid partly by Title I funds and partly by other funds, must complete bi-weekly time and effort reporting of their time. On the online Bi-Weekly Time and Effort form, an employee will allocate the number of hours worked for the pay period across each program covered and determine the percentage of time spent in each program area if it is different than the default amounts. The total must equal 100%. The employee will then submit the time and effort report through PeopleSoft to the supervisor each pay period. The supervisor will then review and approve the employee’s report bi-weekly.
