History of SPPS Superintendents

On May 20, 2024, Dr. John Thein became interim superintendent of Saint Paul Public Schools.

Dr. Thein succeeded Dr. Joe Gothard who served as superintendent from 2017-2024.

Rev. E. D. Neill was chosen as the secretary and treasurer of SPPS upon the organization of the board in 1856. After he resigned in March 1860, Rev. John Mattocks was named his successor, and continued to act as secretary and superintendent until September 1872.
