Dual Credit Options

Dual Credit Options

Dual Credit refers to all courses that allow students to earn high school and college credit while the student is in high school. There are a variety of ways students can earn dual credit. Opportunities vary by school. 

Advanced Placement (AP)

Advanced Placement (AP) is a program which offers college-level courses at high schools. Students have the opportunity to earn college credit by receiving a passing score on the AP subject exam. Career and Technical Education (CTE)

Career and Technical Education (CTE) allows 10th-, 11th- and 12th- grade students to take career-focused college courses while in high school. For more information about CTE opportunities in Saint Paul Public Schools, visit CTE information page.

Concurrent Enrollment

Concurrent Enrollment classes are college-level courses taught at high schools. Students earn both high school and college credit by passing the class. These classes are often called College in the Schools. For more information about Concurrent Enrollment, talk to your school counselor. 

International Baccalaureate (IB)

The International Baccalaureate (IB) Programme is a set of challenging pre-college courses. Students have the opportunity to earn college credit by receiving a passing score on the IB subject exam. Postsecondary Enrollment Option (PSEO)

Postsecondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) is a program that allows 10th-, 11th- and 12th- grade students to earn both high school and college credit while still in high school, through enrollment in and successful completion of college courses at eligible participating institutions. 

Rigorous Course Waivers

Students taking courses designated as “rigorous” by Saint Paul Public Schools (e.g. AP, IB, College in the Schools, Concurrent Enrollment, and PSEO) are eligible to waive related graduation standards.
