Saint Paul Public Schools AVID

Thirty AVID students from Battle Creek Middle School recently visited Minnesota State University - Mankato. The highlights of the day were touring the athletic facilities, checking out the college classes and eating lunch in their dining hall. It was the first college visit for many of the AVID students. In less than five years, many of these students will be sitting in those same college classes.

    Did You Know....

All students in AVID classes are using WICOR strategies to support their learning! Ask an AVID student what WICOR is all about!

AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is a proven, in-school elective college readiness class that prepares students in grades 6-12 for college and career readiness. Students interested in AVID must apply, be interviewed and accepted into the class.

AVID provides students with a comprehensive curriculum grounded in writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading. In addition, AVID students participate in collaborative group tutoring, college campus visits, and career exploration opportunities. Students enrolled in AVID demonstrate higher school attendance rates, increased enrollment in rigorous coursework, higher high school graduation rates, and acceptance to and enrollment in post-secondary opportunities.
