Office of Communications

  • Saint Paul Public Schools communicates with a wide array of community members who make up the District: students, families, staff, business partners, residents and other stakeholders.

    The Office of Communications keeps information flowing to the people that make up, surround and support SPPS. The office merges storytelling, crisis communications, translations and marketing into one unit. 

      What We Do

      • Media Relations

        Our team works with local media outlets on a daily basis, pitching stories, setting up interviews, gathering information, providing facts/data, finding sources and serving as the primary spokesperson for SPPS.         Translation Services

        The translations team provides districtwide translations for families in Hmong, Somali, Spanish and Karen. The team also answers the district’s Somali, Hmong, Spanish and Karen phone lines, and provides interpreting for meetings and other districtwide events. In addition, the team helps coordinate services for 10 other common languages spoken throughout the district. Request a translation.

        Crisis Communications

        There are times when SPPS needs to share information about what may have happened in a school, on a bus or near campus. Our team works closely with security and emergency staff, district and school leaders and, if applicable, St. Paul Police to provide timely communications directly to families via text, phone or email. 

        Family/Parent Notifications

        We use Blackboard Connect to communicate important information with families through automated phone calls, email and text messages. Please check with your school to make sure your contact information is up-to-date.


        Our team provides marketing support and resources for schools and departments. The School Marketing Toolkit is the main source for marketing and document templates, ranging from newsletters to presentations.


        The video team produces more than 125 videos per year and is responsible for all major district video productions and dozens of marketing and promotional videos for schools and departments. Subscribe to our Youtube channel.

        Our team produces several electronic newsletters. Families and community members can subscribe to Happening Now, a bi-monthly newsletter that highlights what is happening across SPPS.

        Event Coordination and Support
