MDH Data for K-12 Schools: 14-day COVID-19 Case Rate by County
This data shows the number of cases by county of residence in Minnesota over 14 days, per 10,000 people by the date of specimen collection (when a person was tested). County population is based on the U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey 2018 5-year estimates.
Any increase in case incidence can represent a greater risk, but schools may consider a 14-day case rate of 10 or more cases per 10,000 to be an elevated risk of disease transmission within the local community, especially when the level of cases per week is sustained or increasing over time.

Minnesota School Opening Statistics
MDH reports case counts by the date of specimen collection, so their official case counts are delayed by 2 weeks to ensure that all test results for specimens collected during a given date range have been included. This dashboard uses the daily data on new cases, regardless of date of specimen collection. Daily case data are more sensitive to emerging trends but do not fully reflect the state of the epidemic on a given date.
This dashboard uses projected 2019 county populations (provided by the U.S. Census), while it appears that MDH are using 2010 Census population data. So, per-capita rates on this dashboard will be lower (about 6% lower on average for the state of Minnesota) for the same case count.

Minnesota Dial Back Dashboard
SPPS will monitor the rate of new cases and how the virus is spreading. If there are sudden increases, we may need to dial back. More information on these measures including data lag information is available here.

School COVID-19 Data FAQ
The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) includes additional school-related COVID-19 data for K-12 schools. The data focuses on cases associated with school buildings where students or staff members were in a school building while being infectious.
The goal of this information is to show the scope of the impact of COVID-19 on all Minnesota schools.
The aggregate school data is in the Weekly COVID-19 Report. The listing of schools with five or more cases is at Situation Update for COVID-19: Facilities with Cases & Exposures.
