Ms. Skaar is a part-time counselor at Highland Park Senior High School working with freshmen as they transition to high school. Freshmen year is a pivitol year for students as they begin to earn credits toward graduation and build their high school transcript and GPA. Ms. Skaar works with students on the skills necessary to make a successful transition. Ms. Skaar works with the counseling team to provide academic advising, social-emotional learning, executive functioning skills and strategies, and career and college planning.
Ms. Skaar graduated from Adams State University with an M.S. in School Counseling in 2013 and from North Dakota State Univeristy with a B.S. in Elementary Education in 2005. She worked as a classroom teacher for three years for Wildrose-Alamo Schools in Wildrose, ND and at Minturn Middle School in Minturn, CO. She then worked for the Minnesota Office of Higher Education with the Get Ready Program before moving into the field of counseling.
Ms. Skaar loves living and working in Saint Paul. She enjoys long walks to Harriet Island and spending time with her husband, daughter, and English Bulldog.
