Digital Suitcases
These eight Digital Suitcases were developed by educators during the summer of 2013 through a partnership with Saint Paul Public Schools’ Center for Equity and Culture and the Minnesota Humanities Center. Each Digital Suitcase includes:
- Three lessons aligned with Minnesota social studies standards, benchmarks, and grade level
- A multiple perspectives/absent narratives focus (see below), strengthened by including input from community members throughout the process
- A list of supplemental resources, both digital and print, many of which are available at the CEC

Grade Levels: 6-12th
Much of our Minnesota State Capitol Art reinforces the dominant narrative of western expansion, and ignores other perspectives and historical facts. This unit offers resources for students to critically examine this art and re-imagine what images could be in our capitol that would more fully represent Minnesota.
