Elementary Art- The Capitol Hill elementary art curriculum includes many different media: drawing, painting, weaving, ceramics, sculpture, Legos, and others. The 2018-2019 curriculum includes pieces inspired by Latino art, Hmong story cloth, Mexican folk painting, Ethiopean art, indigenous painting and weaving, popular cultureand Somali pottery. These cultural connections engage students from those cultures, as well as provide learning opportunities for students to learn about each other and their cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
Middle School Art- The Media Arts course focuses on using digital media for different purposes.
I have worked as an educator for 24 years. I have been a classroom teacher for 3rd and 4th grades, art teacher K-8, technology integrationist, and environmental educator. The thing that I like most about teaching is creating engaging opportunities for students to create art. As an educator, it is important to me to learn throughout my life. In my out of school life, I have recently learned Korean cooking, how to play the piano, and brushed up on my web design skills. I have four children, and live in St. Paul. My favorite things are cooking, music, hanging out with family, watching movies, storytelling, building with Legos, and spending time on any water.
